Password aging is not working with Secure Shell as a start method in Xstart.

LAST MODIFIED DATE: July 13, 2005

VERSION: This applies to Connectivity Secure Shell version 10.0

PROBLEM:

Password aging is enabled, but when connecting with Xstart with Secure Shell as the start method, no prompts are received advising you that the password has expired.

A review of a secure shell tunnel trace reveal the following error message:

"Password change required but no TTY available"

SOLUTION:

To remedy this behavior, you need to obtain the latest Hummingbird Connectivity V10 Update Pack from Technical Support or WebSupport and add an undocumented flag to the windows registry.

Here are the steps to add the undocumented flag:

  1. Click on Windows Start button.
  2. Select Run.
  3. Enter the following command: regedit
  4. Locate the following hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hummingbird\Connectivity\10.00\Exceed\
  5. Add the following new DWORD:
    Value Name = SSHCreateTTY
    DWORD Value = 1
Restart Exceed and you should receive the password expiration prompts when using Xstart and Secure Shell as the start method.
