VERSION: This applies to Exceed All versions
PROBLEM:
When using NIS for browsing Hosts or Applications for Xstart, maps are not "read" each time the Xstart application is started. For example, if the UNIX Administrator adds more Hosts to the NIS Hosts map, and pushes the maps to NIS Slave Servers, you may not see the changes until the browse cache is updated.
SOLUTION:
The Browse Information is cached for 1 day (by default), but this can be changed as follows:
- Under Xstart (Startup Method), click "settings"
- Goto the Other Tab
- For either Files, NIS or FTP (Browse Methods), click the "Options" Tab
- Change the default setting for "Once a day"
You can uncheck the box "Remember Browse Information" so that Browse Information will not be cached
The easiest option would be to hold down the SHIFT key when opening xstart or the xstart startup file. The information will be refreshed automatically.
