VERSION: This applies to Exceed version 9.0
PROBLEM:
Exceed version 9.0, introduced support for password aging in Xstart. How do you configure Xstart to work with password aging?
SOLUTION:
When Xstart launches, it reads the passexp.ini file located in "C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\9.00\Exceed".
Xstart detects UNIX password expiry prompts that require the user to change passwords. You can use a text editor to specify the password expiry prompts in the file "passexp.ini".
There are sample entries in the file, but they are guides only. To determine the exact entries, you should telnet to your host and then copy the prompts from the telnet screen and paste them into the "passexp.ini" file.
In the future, when you connect with Xstart, you will receive the necessary prompts to change the password.
Note 1:
This only works with rlogin and telnet start methods in Xstart.
Note 2:
If you don't follow the system rules for passwords. i.e. minimum number of characters, dictionary words, etc, you won't see the warnings advising you of this and therefore the password update will fail.
