Error message when installing Exceed V9.0 on Windows 2003 Terminal Server.

LAST MODIFIED DATE: January 16, 2004

VERSION: This applies to Exceed version 9.0

PROBLEM:

After creating the Admin copy of Exceed V9.0 on Windows 2003 Terminal server using the command line option, the user runs setup.exe from the Admin drive and gets the following message: "You cannot install Hummingbird Exceed V9.0.0.0 from an Administrative Shared installation directory on either Windows NT 4 (TSE), Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP with Terminal Services."

Additionally, creating the Admin copy from the GUI (Install Exceed, Administrative Installation for Terminal Server) gives the error "invalid command line argument".

SOLUTION:

You must be logged on to the Terminal Server console as the local administrator.

Use the following command line to create the Admin copy:

msiexec /a “<path to>\hummingbird exceed.msi” TRANSFORMS=“<path to>\1033.mst; <path to>\exceedtse.mst”

Once the Admin copy has been created, use the following command line and install Exceed on the Terminal Server:

msiexec /i “<path to the Admin copy directory>\hummingbird exceed.msi”.
