XBell setup and testing

LAST MODIFIED DATE: November 17, 2003

VERSION: This applies to Exceed All versions

PROBLEM:

XBell not functioning through an Exceed session.

SOLUTION:

Create a new registry key (if it is not already there) called "XServer" in the following registry hive:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hummingbird\Connectivity\<Exceed Version>\Exceed\XServer

In XServer create a new Dword named "DefaultSystemBeep" with a value of "1".

In Windows Control Panel, select "Sounds" and enable the "System Beep" or the "Default Beep" and assign a sound to it.

Now test the Xbell function from your Unix host to see if it is working correctly.

Example:
Open an xterm from the Linux host through Exceed on your Windows system and run the following command:

xset 100 1000 50

This will enable the XBell to test and set its volume.

Ctrl+g Runs the Xbell test, you should here a beep(ding) through your sound card.
