Long delay in displaying the Common Desktop Environment (or KDE/Gnome) login screen through Exceed
LAST MODIFIED DATE: October 08, 2003
VERSION: This applies to Exceed version 9.0
PROBLEM:
After upgrading to Exceed 9.0, users attempting to do an XDMCP request to a Unix host will notice a longer delay in the Common Desktop Environment (or KDE/Gnome) login screen appearing.
SOLUTION:
Exceed tries to retrieve hostname by using the reverse lookup method, which delays the connection of X clients in a slow network environment. There are two possible options to reduce this delay:
- Obtain patch Exceed.exe v9.0.0.1. The patch can be obtained from Hummingbird Technical Support or by logging in to WebSupport and clicking on the "Patches" link.
OR
- Add an undocumented flag in the registry. The flag is added in the following hive:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hummingbird\Connectivity\9.00\Exceed\Xserver
If the "Xserver" key is not there, please add it.
Under the Xserver key please create the following DWORD value "ReverseLookupOnConnect" and set its value data to 0.
Therefore the flag looks as follows: ReverseLookupOnConnect=0
