How do you edit the keyboard (.kbf) file used in Exceed onDemand?

LAST MODIFIED DATE: June 17, 2008

VERSION: This applies to All versions of Exceed onDemand.

PROBLEM

How do you edit the keyboard (.kbf) file used in Exceed onDemand?

RESOLUTION:

In order to edit the keyboard files you need to use XKeys. If you have installed the Exceed onDemand Server on Unix or Linux you will need to install XKeys on a Windows machine.

To install XKeys run the Exceed onDemand Server install on a Windows machine. Disable all the install options except "Exceed onDemand XKeys" which is under "Exceed onDemand Tools". After the install finishes you can run XKeys from the following directory.

C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\<version>\Exceed onDemand\Accessories

Next, follow these steps:

  1. Transfer the .kbf file from the Unix or Linux host if that is where the Exceed onDemand Server is installed.
  2. Open the .kbf file in XKeys and double click on the key that needs to have a mapping changed.
  3. Select the part of the mapping you would like to change (Unshifted, Shifted ...).
  4. Select the Symbol Set, and the Keysym then click Select Keysym.
  5. Select OK to exit out of the key and save the changes.
  6. If you transferred the file from a Unix or Linux box transfer it back to the original location.
