Is it possible to create a datastore with a non-root account?

LAST MODIFIED DATE: January 31, 2008

VERSION: This applies to Exceed onDemand version 6.0

DISCUSSION:

Yes, it is possible to create a datastore with a non-root account, in order to do that, you need to apply Exceed onDemand Patch 6.0.5 or later and then do the following:

  1. From the Exceed onDemand server nodes, mount an NFS exported file system (which will be used as a datastore) with a non-root user account.

  2. Create the following entry in conf/admin/eod.cfg under the [CLUSTER_MANAGER] section on all nodes;

    EoDCMRunAsGid=<gid of user account, which was used when mounting the NFS file system in the step #1>
    Please note the value should be gid (number), not group name.

  3. Restart Exceed onDemand servers (CM) from all nodes, and create data store with the Exceed onDemand Server Manager.

Note:

Exceed onDemand patch 6.0.5 or higher can be obtained by logging into WebSupport or when you contact Hummingbird Customer Support
