How do you prevent Xstart, using Connectivity Secure Shell, from waiting for the shell prompt, when a shell script is used?

LAST MODIFIED DATE: June 13, 2008

VERSION: This applies to Exceed versions 2006, 2007 and 2008

PROBLEM:

Xstart with Secure Shell enabled is using authentication by password, and no command. The application is started by putting a script on the host as a replacement for the shell command so there is no shell prompt. How do you prevent Xstart from waiting for the shell prompt?

SOLUTION:

To prevent Xstart from waiting for the shell prompt, you need to do the following:

Run Xstart, Settings, Security, uncheck "Create Shell".
In this case, no login-shell is created and no system-prompt is expected.

Note: If Xstart still insists on a command then you can use a harmless command such as "ls" in the Xstart command section.
