PROBLEM:
Your Hummingbird Connectivity evaluation software has expired. You contacted Hummingbird Connectivity sales and received a new evaluation key. How do you continue to evaluate our software?
NOTE:
This knowledge base article, does not apply to Exceed onDemand evaluation software.
SOLUTION:
In order to continue evaluating with your new key, you will need to to uninstall the expired evaluation and re-install with the new evaluation license key.
If you have created custom files for Xstart, HostExplorer or other components, you can maintain your custom files using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, or alternatively you can manually back up your user files.
Instructions for using the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" to export your user files:
- The utility to execute is called "FSTWizard.exe"
- If your Evaluation is on a sampler CD, browse the CD to the following folder to find the FSTWizard.exe:
<DRIVE>\Setup\x86\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\<version>\Accessories
- If your Evaluation is an electronic download, browse your hard drive to the following folder to find the FSTWizard.exe:
<DRIVE>\Program Files\Hummingbird Evaluation Media\<version>\Hummingbird Product\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\<version>\Accessories
- If your Evaluation is on a sampler CD, browse the CD to the following folder to find the FSTWizard.exe:
- Run FSTWizard.exe, the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard utility will appear, click next.
- In the Select Operation window, choose the Export radio button.
Export specifies that you want to export Connectivity settings for all Hummingbird Connectivity products installed on your machine. If you select this option, you are prompted to save these settings to a .humfst file.
- Click Next
- The wizard will list the Hummingbird Connectivity products installed, click Next.
- Change the location of the Hummingbird Settings file, as follows:
C:\HummingbirdSettings.humfst
The default location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Hummingbird\Connectivity\ \HummingbirdSettings.humfst You need to change this default location, if you create the file in the above folder it will be deleted during the uninstall of the evaluation.
- Click Next to confirm the location.
- Click Next for the Wizard to save your Hummingbird product settings.
- Click Finish once completed.
Instructions for manually backing up your Hummingbird product user settings:
- You can find your user setting files in the following location:
From the Windows Start button, navigate to All Programs > Hummingbird Connectivity Version > User files. - This will open a folder to the following location:
C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Hummingbird\Connectivity\version - Backup this folder and all its sub folders, as this is where the user settings are stored.

Uninstalling the evaluation:
Now that you have backed up your settings and user files, you can uninstall the evaluation.
Uninstall from Add/Remove programs under Control Panel. Please reboot as required.
Installing with a new evaluation key:
You are now ready to reinstall the evaluation and use the new evaluation key.
Insert the evaluation CD into the CD drive. If autorun does not launch, browse the CD and click on msetup.exe.
If your evaluation is an electronic download, browse to the following location and launch Setup.exe.
C:\Program Files\Hummingbird Evaluation Media\<version>\Hummingbird Product
Follow all the dialogs, once prompted for the license key, enter the new license key received from your sales representative.
Restoring User Files:
After you have reinstalled the evaluation copy with your new key, you can import your user files.
Navigate from the Start menu > All Programs > Hummingbird Connectivity > version > Administrative Tools > Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
Select the option to "import" and browse to your saved .humfst settings file:
C:\HummingbirdSettings.humfst
If you did not use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, but manually backed up the "Use Files" folder. You can now copy the data you backed up into the "User Files" folder, the default location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Hummingbird\Connectivity\version
You have now succesfully completed the installation with a new evalaution key and have retained all your settings and user files.
