PROBLEM:
When a 3rd TSE user attempts to connect to a Linux host running Gnome (gdm) via XDMCP from a TSE server, the user gets the following error:
"XDMCP HAS TIMED OUT"
This problem does not occur on Solaris hosts.
SOLUTION:
The issue deals with the way the Gnome XDMCP daemon is configured. By default, GDM is configured to allow only 2 displays per host. Since the users are essentially connecting from the same server as in a TSE environment, this explains why.
You can adjust the gdm.conf file in /etc/X11/gdm or /etc/gdm and change the "DisplaysPerHost" value to be whatever value you think is necessary.
Once the change is made, restart GDM or reboot the Linux host.
If you are using other XDMCP daemons on the host, please refer to the appropriate documentation for that daemon.
NOTE: By default, the CDE daemon on the Solaris host is setup to allow a larger number of displays per host.
