Unable to drag a remote X-client to the secondary monitor.

LAST MODIFIED DATE: June 14, 2007

VERSION: This applies to Exceed version 10.0+

PROBLEM:

Unable to drag an X-client from the primary to the secondary monitor.

The "Use All Monitors" box in Xconfig, Display and Video is checked.
Under the Monitor Info tab, the Total Resolution of All Monitors matches the Windows settings.
In the Exceed.log file, the dimension is not showing the sum of both monitor resolutions and the following message appears:
"WARNING: Screen 0 uses monitors that have different depths.
This screen will instead only use the Primary monitor."

SOLUTION:

The issue is video card related.

In order to resolve this issue, you need to update your video card to the latest driver.

Most current video card drivers have a utility to configure its options. For example, the ATI software offers a "Catalyst Control Center", once launched, you can set the display to expanded screen so that both monitors are displaying one desktop instead of two separate desktops. Another example is the "NVIDIA Control Panel" from Nvidia, once launched, change the display setting from configured independently (Dualview) to horizontal span.

You video driver utility may have a similar option. Once the proper setting is enabled, you should be able to move x-clients to and from multiple physical monitors.
