How to limit users to ONE instance of Exceed in a Terminal Server Environment?

LAST MODIFIED DATE: July 13, 2005

VERSION: This applies to Exceed version 10.0

PROBLEM:

With the "RUN MULTIPLE INSTANCES" deselected in Xconfig, users are still able to execute multiple Exceed sessions in a Terminal Server environment.

SOLUTION:

In a Terminal Server environment, you can only use STATIC display numbers to limit users to ONE instance of Exceed.

NOTE: This is NOT possible with DYNAMIC display numbers.

These changes have to be performed at the Terminal Server console:

  1. Edit the Display Manager.ini file in the following directory:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Hummingbird\Connectivity\10.00\Global\Exceed
  2. Modify the following flags to use Static displays.

    Unique Display For Users=1
    &
    Max Dynamic Numbers=0

  3. Open Control Panel.
  4. Select Administrative Tools.
  5. Select Services.
  6. Restart the HUMMINGBIRD EXCEED DISPLAY CONTROLLER.
Now, each user can only run one instance of Exceed.
