Re: unable to access files without extension

Hi,

thank you Mr. D'Souza.

again the problem with files that are browsable but cannot be opened or
copied.

The cdrom causing the problems is written with Easy CD Creator in iso9660
mode 1. I got access to extension-less files when I took a cd from SUN. I could
open and copy them.
I then took various files (ascii and binary) and removed their extensions
and burned them on a cd. I could reproduce the fault with this cd.

I tried lower- and uppercase as well preserve case too. When I did not
activate the option "cdrom" both on the W2K and Win95 client every extension-less
file had a dot at the end. None of those file were accessible. The files with
an extension were accessible.

Does not work here.

The W2K user has admin rights. There is no problem with accessing the local
filesystem.

>How did you export the CDROM or are you using Volume Manager to export the

After the cdrom is inserted and automounted, I share it with this command:
"share -F nfs -o ro /cdrom/test"

I made some snoops. Some with a W2K client and Win95 client. I am not able
to fully understand these snoops. So, perhaps you can help me. All I can see
on W2K is a lookup and a "no such file ..." as reply.

>By the way - are the extension-less file(s) just text (ASCII) files or are

They are binary files. They have no specific size. The range is fex bytes to
some hundret MB.

The errormessage I get on the W2K client is "file not found".

There is another strange behavior. When I do a "ls -l" on DOS-prompt of the
W2K machine, only the files with an extension are listed. The command "dir"
on the same directory shows all files (with and without extension).

--------------------------
This is a extract of the W2K snoop. The client (fester) is browsing the
directory.

Same snoop. Here I tried to open the file "ammodf00" in notepad. While
browsing the directory the server send the filename "ammodf00.".
